McCarthy Obliterates Interviewer When Questioned About ‘Election Deniers’

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has to be prepared for unreasonable and even obnoxious questions when dealing with the mainstream media. Being the leader of House Republicans means that annoyance comes with the job.

So when interviewed by Margaret Brennan on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, the California Republican was ready.

The host tried to nail McCarthy down by claiming that 70% of the GOP caucus “denied the results of the 2020 presidential election.” She then questioned his decision to appoint several of them to congressional committees when they are supposedly guilty of “denying reality.”

Democrats, for the record, made a point of denying the results of the 2000, 2004, and 2016 elections. Not coincidentally, these are the last three won by the Republican Party.

She cited Intelligence, Homeland Security, and Oversight as “key committees” that apparently should be off limits for “election deniers.”

Of course, Republicans clearly understand that in 2023 “election denier” has been tossed around so much that it lost all meaning.

Not to mention the fact that many Democrats are on record as so-called “election deniers” themselves. This is the point that McCarthy used to hammer the host’s criticism into submission.

The Speaker immediately struck back with the indisputable fact that both Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Bennie Thompson (D-MS) denied the legitimacy of the administrations of both Donald Trump and George W. Bush.

Thompson was the chair of the Jan. 6 committee which carried its persecution of former President Trump to ridiculous levels. Brennan insisted on attempting to back McCarthy into a corner, but he was having none of it.

The Speaker defended the committee assignments as both his personal choices and those of the GOP. Then he turned the tables, questioning Brennan on why she only sees Republicans as “deniers” when “Democrats have done the same thing.”

He concluded that “maybe it’s not denying.” Perhaps what Democrats accuse Republicans of is simply questioning what transpired during an election. Something, of course, that Democrats themselves have done on numerous occasions.

Leftists, especially in the mainstream media, love nothing more than to trot out tired old tropes slamming Republicans for the same things their own leadership is guilty of. What they do not love is when the GOP comes armed with facts to expose their hypocrisy and end the interrogation.
