A set of newly released documents shows that Ashli Babbitt, the woman tragically shot by capitol police on Jan. 6, 2021, was investigated by the FBI after her death, and they considered classifying her as a terrorist.

The information was found in 62 redacted documents obtained by Judicial Watch, a conservative nonprofit, through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
According to their website, “Judicial Watch uses the open records or freedom of information laws and other tools to investigate and uncover misconduct by government officials and litigation to hold to account politicians and public officials who engage in corrupt activities.”
While Babbitt was seen breaking and entering the capitol before her death, she was unarmed, and it’s obvious that even thinking to call her a terrorist would be a stretch.
Many have pointed out the injustice of the FBI choosing to investigate Babbitt when the man who shot her went unpunished.
“Photographic and video evidence makes clear that there was ample police manpower present in the Speaker’s Lobby who were ready and able to stop or arrest Babbitt should she have managed to get past the barricade which awaited her in the Speaker’s Lobby. She would never have made it into the House Chamber, and the officer had no reason to believe otherwise.” The Babbitt family’s lawyer wrote in a statement on Twitter.
Many have pointed out that while it’s true that Babbitt was breaking the law, recent concerns, primarily pushed by the left, about police brutality have been ignored in this case. During the last several years, the left has pushed for stricter enforcement of laws forbidding officers from shooting unless they are reasonably sure they’re in imminent danger.
But in this case, the roles have flipped, with the right treating a criminal as a martyr, and the left claiming that the police made the correct decision. This one’s a morally grey area, though. Babbitt was breaking the law, and the officer who killed her made a terrible assessment of the situation.
Judicial Watch is also helping Babbitt’s family file a $30 million wrongful death suit against the government.
A recent court filing revealed that the Department Of Justice is trying to get this lawsuit moved from California to Washington D.C. Judicial Watch is fighting the potential move, pointing out that D.C. has been openly hostile towards Jan. 6 defendants.
Sentiment against the woman prevails outside of D.C. as well. The death of the 35-year-old veteran has provided a defenseless name and face for angry left-wingers to attack.
Ashli Babbitt was a deeply passionate, but sadly misguided individual. Her willingness to stand up for what she thought was right led her to be part of the vocal minority present at the capitol that crossed the line from protester to rioter, and she paid the price.
Now the tragedy of her death is mocked by frustrated and thoughtless liberals who have associated her smiling face with a threat to their country, the same sort of threat Babbit thought she was fighting, and they call her a terrorist for it.
