Elon Musk And Obama Do The Immigration Math

Billionaire engineer and business magnate Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, reposted a video Tuesday on X, formerly Twitter, of former President Barack Obama explaining we cannot have “half a million” people “pouring over the border” with Mexico and did some math for his followers about how immigration will change America.

“Now, 10 times as many people per year are ‘pouring over the border’, to use Obama’s words. America is 4% of Earth’s population. If even 1% of Earth moves here – and there is every incentive to do so – that is 80 million people,” Musk wrote. The tech magnate has been ringing the alarm bell on immigration in recent months.

The video showed Obama discussing immigration in 2009 after he became president, telling a cheering crowd he was going to be strict on immigration policy: “This is not going to be a free ride. It’s not going to be some instant amnesty.”

“What’s going to happen is you are going to pay a significant fine,” Obama said in 2009 as president. “You are going to learn English. You are going to go to the back of the line so that you don’t get ahead of somebody who was in Mexico City applying legally.”

“It only works though if you do all the pieces. I think the American people — they appreciate and believe in immigration. But they can’t have a situation where you just have half a million people pouring over the border without any kind of mechanism to control it. So we’ve got to deal with that at the same time,” Obama added.

A conservative X user replied, “Here is Pelosi and Schumer in 2008 and 2009 as well. It’s so… coordinated,” with a post of a video of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) saying, “While we need to address the issue of immigration and the challenge we have of undocumented people in our country, we certainly don’t want any more coming in.”

Another sound bite from the video showed then-Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) saying, “If you don’t think it’s illegal you’re not going to say it. I think it is illegal and wrong. People who enter the United States without our permission are illegal aliens and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who entered the U.S. legally.”
