A career criminal with a history of domestic violence hunted down and executed his ex-wife inside a Detroit hospital, exposing catastrophic failures in our justice system that left an innocent woman defenseless against a known predator.
Story Highlights
- Mario Green, 53, fatally shot his ex-wife, Latricia Green Brown, at Henry Ford Hospital on August 22, 2025.
- Brown had obtained a personal protection order against Green one month prior, but it was unserved at the time of the shooting.
- Green had a documented criminal history, including prior convictions for aggravated stalking and arson.
- The incident prompted a hospital lockdown and a manhunt that led to Green’s arrest the following day.
System Failures Highlighted by Domestic Violence Homicide
The fatal shooting of Latricia Green Brown, 40, a Henry Ford Hospital employee, on August 22, 2025, raised immediate concerns regarding the effectiveness of legal protections against domestic violence. Mario Green, 53, the victim’s ex-husband, allegedly entered the hospital’s basement, where Brown worked, and fatally shot her at approximately 9:45 a.m.
Detroit Police officials confirmed that Brown had recently secured a personal protection order (PPO) against Green following reports of harassment and stalking at her workplace.
However, Assistant Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald stated that the order had not been served to Green at the time of the incident. Advocates, such as Johanna Kononen, Director of Law and Policy at the Michigan Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence, noted that in Michigan, the responsibility for serving a PPO often falls to the victim, exposing a systemic flaw in the state’s domestic violence protection process.
In June, Latricia Green pleaded for a protection order from her ex-husband. It was denied. She asked again in July. It wasn’t served.

Criminal History and Charges
Mario Green’s background included past criminal convictions that provided clear indicators of domestic abuse and violence. Court records confirm he had a prior felony conviction for aggravated stalking (2001) and had previously pleaded no contest to arson (2006).
Following the shooting, Green fled the scene. He was arrested on August 23, 2025, and subsequently charged by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy with First-Degree Premeditated Murder, Aggravated Stalking, Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, and four counts of Felony Firearm. Worthy commented that while most people handle failed relationships without violence, “deadly violence is the remedy for some individuals.”
Hospital Security and Accomplice Charges
The ease with which Green was able to enter Henry Ford Hospital armed raised questions regarding the security protocols at the facility. Henry Ford Health stated it was cooperating with the Detroit Police investigation and conducting its own internal review into how the violence occurred inside the medical facility.
The investigation led to the arrest of a second individual, Anthony Lee-Lamont Barnett, 54, who was charged as an accomplice with Accessory After the Fact and Lying to a Police Officer. Prosecutors allege Barnett aided Green in fleeing the scene following the shooting. Both suspects are scheduled to appear for preliminary hearings on November 6, 2025, in Detroit.
