Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will head back to Washington, D.C., this week, but not to the same office. In light of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) being ousted as Speaker of the House on Tuesday following a 216-210 vote, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) has stepped up to the plate.
Acting as interim speaker until a new election can be held to fill McCarthy’s seat, McHenry took swift action against Pelosi to vacate her hideaway office she had previously refused to exit under McCarthy’s reign. Many are questioning why it didn’t happen then.
As his first act as Acting Speaker, Rep. Patrick McHenry ordered Nancy Pelosi to vacate her Capitol hideaway office by Wednesday.

McHenry sent Pelosi an email on Tuesday that read, “Going to reassign h-132 for speaker office use. Please vacate the space tomorrow.”

Pelosi was quick to retaliate. Her office issued a statement on Tuesday evening noting, “With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address; which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol.”
The statement continued, “This eviction is a sharp departure from tradition,” adding that she “gave former Speaker Hastert a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished.”
Pelosi is currently in California alongside many members of Congress who are bidding farewell to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who passed away just days ago.
Fortunately, Pelosi’s travel plans won’t delay her from vacating her office. Staff for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is assisting in collecting Pelosi’s belongings from her former office while she is away.
Now, we await an election to find out who will become the next Speaker of the House. McCarthy said yesterday that Pelosi once told him she would always have his back. Have the tides turned?
Kevin McCarthy told reporters yesterday he relied on Democrats to save him. He believed they would do so because he passed the CR. He also says he trusted lying snake Pelosi, who once told him “I’ll always have your back.” But it turns out she meant only with a knife in it. pic.twitter.com/RJmmqVWatq

McCarthy could run to reclaim his seat, although he mentioned in the same speech yesterday that he would not.
Mention of others who might throw their hat in the ring is looming in a climate that seems to support fresh blood taking the mantle in the House.
