Trump Calls On States To Surge Guard Troops To Texas Border

Former President and 2024 GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump urged “all willing States” on Thursday to deploy National Guard troops to Texas to support Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) desperate efforts to secure the southern border from a record flood of illegal immigrants under President Joe Biden’s extraordinarily permissive border and immigration policy.

“When I was President, we had the most secure Border in History,” the statement began. “Joe Biden has surrendered our Border, and is aiding and abetting a massive Invasion of millions of Illegal Migrants into the United States.”

“Instead of fighting to protect our Country from this onslaught, Biden is, unbelievably, fighting to tie the hands of Governor Abbott and the State of Texas, so that the Invasion continues unchecked,” Trump said of his likely general election rival in November.

“In the face of this National Security, Public Safety, and Public Health Catastrophe, Texas has rightly invoked the Invasion Clause of the Constitution, and must be given full support to repel the Invasion,” Trump wrote. “We encourage all willing States to deploy their guards to Texas to prevent the entry of Illegals, and to remove them back across the Border.”

The Texas National Guard has appeared to ignore a recent Supreme Court ruling approving a Biden Administration directive to the U.S. Border Patrol to remove razor-wire barriers placed at the border by Texas to halt illegal border crossers. Gov. Abbott has vowed to install more razor wire, invoking the state’s right to defend itself from foreign invaders.

The White House recently said in a statement: “Whether it is leaving migrants on the side of the road in the dead of winter, installing razor wire to make Border Patrol’s job more dangerous, promoting extreme and unconstitutional laws like S.B. 4, or his latest actions in Eagle Pass, Governor Abbott has repeatedly proven that he [ … ] only seeks to politicize the border.”

Trump promised in his Thursday statement, “When I am President, on Day One, instead of fighting Texas, I will work hand in hand with Governor Abbott and other Border States to Stop the Invasion, Seal the Border, and Rapidly Begin the Largest Domestic Deportation Operation in History. Those Biden has let in should not get comfortable because they will be going home.”
