California Lawmaker Warns Parents To Depart Over ‘Gender-Affirming’ Law

A profoundly unsettling cloud looms over the Golden State as state Sen. Scott Wilk (R) pleads with parents to flee their homeland due to what he deems an oppressive and dangerous “gender-affirming” law. This law pits the state against parental rights. It injects the government’s radical, progressive agenda into family dynamics, potentially determining custody battles.

Introduced by Assemblywoman Lori Wilson (D), Assembly Bill 957 (AB 957) expands the definition of “health, safety, and welfare” to include gender-affirming care. Should a parent resist endorsing a child’s gender transition, it could influence custody disputes, jeopardizing their parental rights. The bill recently passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote.

Wilk, who has served in the state legislature for 11 years, laments the government’s invasive role in parenting. “In recent years, we have put government bureaucrats between parents, children, and doctors when it comes to medical care,” he said, underscoring the intrusive nature of AB 957. “If a parent does not support the ideology of the government, children are going to be taken away from the home.”

Wilk previously advised parents to battle for their rights. However, witnessing the escalating assault on parental choice and rights, he’s altered his stance. “If you love your children, you need to flee California,” he emphatically advised during a Judiciary Committee hearing.

Yet, despite the outcry and vocal concerns of parents statewide, Democrats appear oblivious or perhaps indifferent. State Sen. Scott Wiener (D) dismisses objections to the bill as part of a “coordinated campaign by right-wing media.”

For Democrats, the concept of affirmation seems clear-cut and ought to grant judges flexibility. However, the vagueness of “affirmation” in this context only increases parental apprehension. The overtones of radical leftism are hard to ignore when Assemblywoman Lori Wilson (D) insists, “No one is out to get your kids,” while endorsing a bill that potentially snatches children from parents for not complying with a prescribed ideology.

On the international front, concerns around such drastic approaches to gender affirmation have already emerged. Finland, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have voiced doubts, and State Senate Republican Roger Niello questions why California shouldn’t consider these reservations.

While Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) proudly declares California a haven for transgender youth, the potential fallout for families is alarming. “I was born and raised in this state. I love this state, but I’m not going to stay in this state,” Wilk said, expressing his desolation over California’s increasing ideological authoritarianism.

For families, the ongoing assault on parental rights is an ominous sign of how far the radical left’s woke gender agenda could permeate their lives. As the Democratic-led California State Senate prepares to vote on AB 957, the threat to traditional family values remains distressingly accurate. It seems parents are under siege, pawns in a broader ideological game.
