The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s decision to allow Green Party candidate Jill Stein to remain on the ballot could have far-reaching consequences for the 2024 presidential race, especially in a state that both parties see as critical. Democrats had sought to remove Stein from the ballot, fearing that her candidacy could siphon liberal votes away from Kamala Harris and improve President Donald Trump’s chances in the state.
Stein’s 2016 performance in Wisconsin serves as a cautionary tale for Democrats. That year, she garnered more than 31,000 votes—far exceeding Trump’s margin of victory in the state. With her progressive platform focusing on climate action, social justice, and anti-corporate policies, Stein could once again attract voters who might otherwise lean toward Harris.
