White House Has to Clean Up After Another Embarrassing Biden Gaffe

The White House was forced to clean up after another embarrassing gaffe by Joe Biden, as the president apparently didn’t know what Title 42 was when asked a question about the policy by a reporter.

During a press conference on Thursday, Biden was asked about the administration’s decision to revoke Title 42, a Trump-era policy which allowed border officials to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the United States from countries where a communicable disease — such as COVID-19 — is present.

Biden somehow managed to mistake the subject of Title 42, believing that it had to do with the judge’s order that ended the public transit mask mandate.

“Are you considering delaying lifting Title 42?” the reporter asked.

“No. What I’m considering is continuing to hear from my – first of all, there’s going to be an appeal by the Justice Department,” Biden replied.

“Because as a matter of principle we want to be in a position where if in fact it is strongly concluded by the scientists that we need Title 42, that we be able to do that,” he continued. “But there has been no decision on extending Title 42.”

Video of Biden’s gaffe immediately went viral on social media, with people criticizing his lack of knowledge about key issues, or attributing his gaffe to his cognitive decline.

“When asked about Title 42, President Biden gave an incoherent answer about mask mandates. For the good of the country, he needs to stop speaking extemporaneously in public,” tweeted Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR).

Later that day, the White House was forced to correct the president’s gaffe, releasing a statement in Biden’s voice clarifying his confused comments.

“I want to clarify that, in comments at the conclusion of my remarks this morning, I was referring to the CDC’s mask mandate and there is no Department of Justice action on Title 42,” Biden said in the statement.

This is definitely not the first time that Biden has made a gaffe that needed to be clarified. The White House is often forced to come forward to issue retractions, clarifications, and corrections regarding public statements made by the president. This time was a bit different though, as it is rare that they issue a personal statement from Biden to clarify his own comments.
