Former Democratic Representative and primary presidential candidate from Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard addressed Orlando’s Conservative Political Action Conference. She decried today’s progressive politicians for hypocritically standing for democracy overseas while crushing dissent in America.
The modern left claims that America must go to war to promote freedom and democracy while undermining freedom and our republic at home. Referring to the Biden Administration’s neoconservative and neoliberal foreign policy in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, she slammed the Democratic mission for America to be the world’s policeman.
The Pentagon has not yet sent any troops into Ukraine. Still, it has increased the presence of US personnel in Poland and other Eastern NATO countries for the stated purpose of assisting fleeing refugees.
Following the takedown of Democratic foreign policy, Gabbard hammered progressives and the Biden Administration for actively punishing political dissent domestically. She specifically referenced the willingness of Democrats to use times of crisis to exert ever-growing control over the population.
She said the left uses “emergencies” and “times of war” to enlarge the security state and further erode American liberty and fundamental rights. She said the PATRIOT Act and the response to COVID-19 are both examples of the government working with Big Tech to cancel and censor what it calls “misinformation,” which she says is happening again in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
She also hammered the Department of Homeland Security for using the threat of domestic terrorism to stifle political opponents. She said politicians see themselves as the “high priests in a secular theocracy.” That allows them to describe dissenters as “heretics” against the state religion, making it unsurprising that Attorney General Merrick Garland would describe Americans with contrary political views as domestic terrorists.
Gabbard also criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for using tyranny and authoritarianism to go after peaceful protesters participating in the truck drivers’ “Freedom Convoy” protests across Canada in recent weeks. She warned that emergency powers leading to the seizure of bank accounts and taking children from parents, among other atrocities, could happen in America unless citizens remain vigilant.
Gabbard’s political future is unknown, although it is evident that she has reached a complete break with her former political party.
