Trump-Inspired Think Tank Unveils Platform for 2024 GOP Nominee

On Monday, leaders of the America First Policy Institute unveiled a policy platform they hope will guide the Republican Party’s presidential candidate in 2024.

The platform, inspired by the work of the Trump administration, emphasized increased border security, law and order in the criminal justice system, and economic policies that secure U.S. energy independence.

Monday’s meeting of the AFPI was the beginning of a two-day agenda summit held in Washington D.C. The summit featured a number of prominent conservatives, including Trump administration officials, current Republican lawmakers and former President Donald Trump himself.

The conference also included former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who emphasized the group’s goal of guiding the “next Republican administration,” regardless of whether that administration is led by Trump or a different nominee.

“Trump’s the most likely, but I think DeSantis could use these people,” Gingrich said of the summit attendees. “Mike Pence could use these people.”

Former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway echoed Gingrich, saying in an interview that the AFPI’s America First policies are useful to any Republican candidate because they are, fundamentally, useful to the American people.

“I have a great deal of faith in the American people. I believe that they are smart enough to suss out which policies work for them literally and which do not,” Conway said. “And if President Trump decides to run, I’m sure many of these policies will be part of his platform and his blueprint. And if he decides not to run, then other Republican nominees — they’ll also be running on America First.”

Conway, who serves as chair of the AFPI’s Center for the American Child, was one of the summit’s featured speakers, along with fellow Trump administration veterans Rick Perry, the former Energy secretary, and Linda McMahon, the former Small Business Administration chief.

In a statement, McMahon reaffirmed the institute’s goal of establishing a clear set of policies that put the interests of the American people first.

“We agreed that the central focus of AFPI should be to promote policies that advance the causes and the interests of the American people and put them first,” McMahon said. “And that’s what we’re going to do and everything we do. And that’s what the prior administration did as well.”
