Top Aide To NY Governors Arrested For Alleged Chinese Communist Ties

A former aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo was arrested for allegedly acting as an undisclosed agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Linda Sun, 41, and her husband, Christopher Hu, 40, were detained following an FBI raid on their Long Island home.

Sun is facing serious charges, including violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband has been charged with money laundering conspiracy and bank fraud. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York alleges that the couple laundered millions of dollars on behalf of the Chinese government, using the money to buy luxury properties and vehicles.

The indictment accuses Sun of using her position in the New York state government to block representatives from Taiwan while arranging meetings for Chinese government officials. The couple’s purchases reportedly include a $4.1 million home on Long Island, a $2.1 million condo in Hawaii, and luxury cars like a 2024 Ferrari.

U.S. Attorney Breon Peace emphasized the severity of the charges, stating that Sun and her husband worked to further the interests of the CCP while enriching themselves. Gov. Hochul’s administration terminated Sun’s employment in March 2023 after discovering evidence of her misconduct, and they have fully cooperated with law enforcement.

This arrest highlights the ongoing threat of foreign influence within U.S. government institutions.
