While immunization numbers are at an all-time high, Biden is considering additional lockdowns. “If the number of cases (Covid-19) continues to rise, would the White House reimpose such constraints in the circumstances like this, or would they be left to the states?” Jen Psaki was asked.
Psaki certainly didn’t “reevaluate” in her response, saying, “States will have to make assessments, and local communities will have to assess what is in their best interests. And, as you know, some sections of the country have substantially greater vaccination rates than others, and we certainly support their decision to implement any steps that they believe will assist their community is safe. But I’d like to remind you that we’ve nearly reached a 70 percent immunization rate for adults aged 27 and up.”
The Federal Government’s responsibility is to steer the country in the correct direction and offer suggestions about what is best for the states. When “big Government” gets too big, and there are too many people in charge, people seem to “pass the buck.” It’s no secret anymore that Kamala Harris has had rifts with her political aids, and it shows this administration can’t get it together.
The 10th Amendment outlines an individual state’s right to govern, saying, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
While that is undoubtedly true, the Federal Government can influence states to implement appropriate policies. If Dr. Anthony Fauci is any example, he led states down a path of destruction in 2020 by suggesting one, two, and even three masks are worn at all times. Maybe not 3, but you get the point. It’s undoubtedly humorous to see drivers alone in their cars with covers on their faces. If Covid-19 is strong enough to survive the intake of a vehicle and air conditioning system, then it would seem we’re in more trouble than expected! But it’s simply not.
Fortunately, Biden responded quite well when asked about lockdowns a few weeks ago. When asked about new lockdowns, Biden responded, “I don’t think so because so many people have already been vaccinated, but the Delta variant can cause people to die in areas where people have not been vaccinated.” With new explorations of lockdowns, it’s hopeful Biden will not choose to enact federal lockdowns, but he’s also been known to flip flop his position.
It’s unclear the next steps of the Biden Administration, but what is clear is the inability to answer questions clearly and concisely. Maybe Psaki will give better answers when she “Circles Back.”
