A woman from San Antonio, Texas, was arrested in Washington, DC, on Friday for allegedly threatening President Donald Trump. Christina Montoya was found near the White House with an unlicensed firearm and a magazine, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Authorities received information about Montoya’s travel to the capital and acted swiftly to apprehend her. Trump was reportedly in the Hamptons with donors at the time of the arrest. The police report lists an “offense start date” of July 20, 2024, but the exact timing of the alleged threats is unclear.
Montoya was detained less than a mile from Capitol Hill and about three miles from the White House. This arrest follows a recent assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump addressed the incident at a subsequent rally in Atlanta, Georgia, thanking the Secret Service agents who protected him during the Butler shooting. He described how Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire, narrowly missing him. “That was really something incredible. That was from God,” Trump said, attributing his survival to divine intervention.
During the Butler attack, a bullet grazed Trump’s ear, causing a minor injury. Secret Service agents quickly responded, shooting and killing Crooks at the scene. This incident was the most significant attempt on a presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan’s assassination attempt in 1981.
Montoya faces multiple charges, including possession of an unregistered firearm, carrying a pistol without a license, and making threats against a former president. Trump is listed as a victim on the threat charge. This case highlights the persistent security threats faced by high-profile political figures and the vital role of law enforcement in protecting them.
As the investigation into Montoya’s actions continues, authorities are expected to enhance security measures to prevent similar incidents. The arrest serves as a stark reminder of the dangers public figures face and underscores the importance of vigilant protection measures to ensure their safety.
