Texas Teachers Suspended Amid Allegations Of Giving Preschoolers Melatonin Patches

Two preschool teachers in Spring, Texas, have been placed on administrative leave amid allegations that they gave students “sleepy stickers” containing melatonin. The situation came to light when a mother, Lisa Luviano, reported that her daughter received a sticker at Northgate Crossing Elementary School that she claimed was for “sleeping time.”

Luviano researched the sticker and found it resembled melatonin patches sold online, which are intended only for adults. Other parents, including Melissa Gilford, confirmed that their children had also received the stickers. One mother, Najala Abdullah, noticed behavioral changes in her son, who became more emotional and had stopped eating.

Parents voiced their concerns to school officials, who had reportedly not informed them of the situation in a timely manner. The Spring Independent School District confirmed that the two teachers had been placed on leave, along with two paraprofessionals who also worked in the classroom. An investigation by the district’s police department is ongoing.

The district stressed that staff members are prohibited from giving students any type of medication or supplements without authorization, according to district policy. As the investigation continues, parents are demanding answers and assurances that their children’s safety is the district’s top priority.
