Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), tapped to serve as UN ambassador, and Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR), nominated for Labor secretary, are among those who have faced credible threats. Chavez-DeRemer revealed that her home was targeted with a pipe bomb threat just before Thanksgiving, while other appointees, including Scott Turner, reported similar incidents.
Swatting, which involves making false emergency calls to provoke armed police responses, is a particularly dangerous tactic. These incidents not only threaten the intended victims but also put law enforcement officers at risk of harm due to the heightened tension such calls create.
The timing and coordination of these threats suggest an organized campaign aimed at intimidating Trump’s nominees and undermining the peaceful transfer of power.
