Based on a true story, the movie, directed by Alejandro Monteverde, centers on a federal agent’s heroic mission to rescue a young girl from ruthless child traffickers. Featuring esteemed actors like Jim Caviezel and Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino, “Sound of Freedom” daringly shines a light on the dark, underexplored issue of human trafficking. Despite such an important message, outlets like Rolling Stone and The Guardian have dismissed the film as mere fantasy, even accusing it of inciting moral panic.

There are poor and unhoused, and people brutalized or killed by police, and yet, over and over, the far right turns to these sordid fantasies about godless monsters hurting children.” This statement dismisses a horrific reality affecting millions as a “fantasy,” which is not only ill-informed but also alarming.
