Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), along with others on the right, pointed out the brazen hypocrisy of Democrats attempting to use race to argue for eliminating the filibuster.
During an appearance on “Fox News Primetime,” the senator savaged Democrats for pretending the filibuster is racist, despite having used the tactic to kill his police reform bill last year. He said:
?It was a frustrating, irritating moment where the Democrats used the filibuster to block police reform that would have positively impacted disproportionately African American communities. Here’s what we know about the Democrats: They were for the filibuster before they were against the filibuster. I keep asking myself, will the real Chuck Schumer please stand up? Is it the one who was for the filibuster, or is it the new one who’s now against the filibuster?”
The senator also referenced former President Barack Obama’s and President Joe Biden’s previous, supportive comments about the filibuster, he pointed out that “they use the word ‘racist’ whenever they’re trying to scare people into their corner. It has nothing to do with race, but they don’t care. Winning at all costs means losing at some point.”
The Democrats have been displaying their love for Jim Crow and everything racist over the past week, as they weaponize it to support the agenda they are pushing. It is clear that the only reason they wish to end the filibuster is that it would allow them to impose Biden’s radical agenda on immigration, gun control, and a host of other issues.
Also, Democrats and their friends in the activist media seem to think the public won’t find out that they used the filibuster over 300 times in 2020, including with Sen. Scott’s police reform bill, which makes it all the more interesting that they are using Jim Crow to bash the practice. Scott was putting forth a valid solution to police brutality, which the left claims to care about because it impacts black Americans. Yet, they used a supposedly Jim Crow tactic to block the passage of Scott’s bill.
This is not the only issue on which the left is weaponizing Jim Crow. They are also using it to attack Georgia’s voting laws, claiming Republicans are trying to bring the state back to the days when the government prevented black Americans from voting. While the legislation has some issues, it is clear that this is not an effort to specifically prevent black people from voting.
Regrettably, the Democrats are always able to control the narrative. Messaging is not exactly the GOP’s forte, which means it is easier for the left to push deceptive narratives on these matters. The fact that they are willing to use Jim Crow to attack a tactic they used hundreds of times less than a year ago demonstrates that they believe nobody will pick up on their hypocrisy. Are they right?
