A heated diplomatic feud between Russia and Britain has led to the expulsion of multiple diplomats, as Moscow accuses London of interfering in peace efforts. Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) claimed that Britain is actively working against negotiations between the U.S. and Russia, suggesting that the UK is unwilling to see diplomatic progress unfold.
The situation escalated after Russia removed two British diplomats, stating they had engaged in intelligence operations under the pretense of diplomatic work. Russian security services alleged that the individuals had falsified details about their activities in the country. Britain quickly retaliated by stripping a Russian diplomat of accreditation, dismissing Russia’s claims as a politically motivated attack.
Russia’s latest accusations go beyond espionage, as officials in Moscow labeled Britain a historical agitator in global conflicts. The SVR referenced Britain’s past involvement in major wars, suggesting that the country has a long history of fueling tensions while keeping itself shielded from direct consequences.
British lawmakers pushed back against Russia’s claims, with some calling them outright propaganda. Liberal Democrat MP Calum Miller stated that Moscow is attempting to rewrite history and avoid responsibility for its own aggressive actions in Ukraine.
Security concerns over Russian espionage have been growing in Britain. Intelligence agencies recently dismantled a Kremlin-linked spy ring operating in the UK, reinforcing suspicions that Moscow is actively engaged in intelligence gathering across Europe.
Amid the diplomatic clash, representatives from the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine are holding discussions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, seeking potential steps toward resolving the war.
