During a health panel hosted by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Robert F. Kennedy Jr. issued a grave warning, claiming that government food and health policies are “mass poisoning” America’s children. The panel, titled “American Health & Nutrition: A Second Opinion,” featured several witnesses who testified on issues ranging from processed foods to childhood obesity.
Kennedy focused on the failures of America’s food system, highlighting that 70% of food stamps are used to purchase processed foods. He pointed to a disturbing imbalance in government subsidies, noting, “We give eight times as much subsidies to tobacco in this country than we do to fruits and vegetables.” He argued that these policies are contributing to the decline of public health.
In his testimony, Kennedy also accused regulatory agencies like the FDA and CDC of being controlled by large, for-profit corporations. He claimed that these agencies are no longer working to protect the health of Americans, but rather serve the interests of Big Pharma and other industries. “These conflicts have transformed our regulatory agencies into predators against the American people and particularly our children,” Kennedy stated.
He also took aim at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), alleging that 80% of its grants go to scientists who later profit from the products they develop. Kennedy argued that this creates a conflict of interest that compromises public trust in these institutions.
Kennedy concluded by calling for major reforms, stating, “We can change all of this very, very quickly, but it starts with taking a sledgehammer to corruption.”
