New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) recently unveiled that her office will monitor the social media activity of residents in The Empire State, marking the latest Orwellian move by the left to seize control over its citizens.

Hochul’s office said the surveillance efforts come as antisemitism rises across the U.S. as Israel defends itself against Hamas, a terrorist organization.
With anti-Israel sentiment rife in America, “the State of New York will increase staffing to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force,” calling this their “latest effort to fight hate in all forms after the Hamas terror attacks, which have been followed by a reported increase in Antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents,” the New York governor’s office announced.
“We have determined that the rising level of hate and antisemitism in particular poses a clear and present danger to the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers,” Hochul said at a news conference.
“It’s painful to me as the governor of this great state, that has been known for its diversity, and how we celebrate different cultures, different religions, different viewpoints, it’s painful to see the cruelty with which New Yorkers are treating each other,” she added.
“Everywhere from college campuses, to our streets, to schools, to playgrounds; even as they’re entering their houses of worship,” The Democratic governor continued.
Hochul said that in the wake of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terrorist attacks, she instructed the State Police to protect synagogues, yeshivas, and mosques. Now, the New York governor is honed in on social media, per BizPac Review.
She said New York is “collecting data” from “surveillance efforts” on social media. If state officials deem what one says to be “hate speech,” that individual will be prosecuted.
Interestingly, Hochul called her social media monitoring plan one that will increase the freedom of her residents.
“If anyone thinks that they can get away with spreading hate and harming other New Yorkers and violating the law, you will be caught,” she warned. “You will be caught here in the State of New York because we are ramping up our resources to ensure that everyone can live freely.”
Hochul’s office refused to specify exactly what hate speech is, thereby creating a slippery slope between what New Yorkers can say on social media. In an era where the party in charge goes after its leading political opponent, it remains to be seen if the Democratic governor will label anti-leftist ideology as “hate speech.”
