With President Joe Biden’s term nearing its end, filmmaker Michael Moore is calling on him to take bold actions during his final 100 days in office. In a Substack post, Moore suggested that Biden, with “full immunity,” has the opportunity to check off a list of major progressive goals before leaving the White House.
Moore’s proposed “bucket list” for Biden includes declaring the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as the 28th Amendment, canceling student and medical debt, and closing the Guantanamo Bay detention center. He also urged Biden to return the Guantanamo land to Cuba, arguing that the U.S. no longer needs it.
Moore encouraged Biden to use his foreign policy expertise to bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table and to end U.S. support for Israel in its war against Hamas. Additionally, Moore suggested Biden could empty the Federal Death Row by commuting the sentences of inmates to life without parole.
The filmmaker also called on Biden to grant clemency to Edward Snowden, whom he believes should be honored for his whistleblower actions. Moore’s list concluded with a lighthearted suggestion to ban spam text messaging, saying such a move would secure Biden’s place in history.
Moore’s call to action reflects a desire from the left for Biden to use his remaining time in office to take bold, progressive steps that could define his legacy.
