Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed Dr. Joseph Ladapo as the state’s new surgeon general. In addition to the fact that Dr. Ladapo is associated with Gov. DeSantis, the left and the corporate media are predictably hyperventilating in outrage over his positions on COVID vaccine mandates and masking rules.
Dr. Ladapo is a Harvard Medical School graduate and has worked as a professor at UCLA. He recently began serving as a professor at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Lapado has run afoul of the Biden administration and the media’s mantra that vaccinations and mask-wearing are the only possible ways to combat COVID-19. He has gone far outside the legal opinions by suggesting that the state should be promoting good health.
Democratic National Committee spokesperson Adonna Biel said in a statement that DeSantis is “once again playing games with peoples’ lives” by appointing Lapado instead of a “trusted advocate for science.” The statement also accuses Lapado of being someone “who has trafficked anti-vaccine and anti-mask rhetoric.”
Lapado has said that vaccination is not the “only path” even though it is treated “almost like a religion.” He recommends “all” measures that support good health, saying it includes “vaccination, losing weight, exercising more, eating more fruits and veggies.”
Lapado runs counter to the federal government’s decision to ignore the most prevalent causes of death among patients who contract the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Obesity and comorbidities are off-limits when it comes to any discussion about prevention.
Some aggravating conditions are indeed unavoidable. Still, anyone who talks about the proactive steps that Americans can take to mitigate the risk of serious illness is considered a heretic. Government officials and media pundits sneer at healthy eating and exercise.
Ladapo also believes that masks should not be forced on people who choose not to wear them. Even though he is “following the science” in that respect, he is sharply criticized for running against the orthodox position on masking.
In the fantasy world of the media and our betters in Washington, healthy living is worse than a waste of time. It is subversive and runs counter to the official narrative regarding mandates, vaccines, and lockdown rules. Ordinary Americans can be thankful for the example set by Florida’s surgeon general and governor.
