Far-left MSNBC host Joy Reid has a reputation for embracing divisive rhetoric on the air, including her recent complaint on the night of the Iowa caucuses that there were too many White Christians living in the state.
While her dutiful regurgitation of Democratic Party talking points might lead viewers to assume that she walks in lockstep with the Biden administration, one recent outburst that was apparently not meant for broadcast has sparked speculation about her partisan allegiance.
During Monday’s broadcast of “The Reid Out,” she highlighted a clip from President Joe Biden’s recent South Carolina trip, during which he blamed Congress for his administration’s failure to secure the nation’s southern border and appeared to refer to his predecessor as the “sitting president.”
As Biden spoke in the selected clips, Reid offered some explicit commentary, asserting: “Starting another f—ing war.”
It was unclear precisely what the host was referencing, but it came in the wake of a drone attack that left three American service members dead in Jordan and led to discussions regarding possible military action against Iran, which was linked to the militant group responsible.
Without confirming the context of her outburst, Reid apologized for the profanity later in the same broadcast.
“Before we go, I just want to apologize very quickly,” she said. “I was chatting during a clip that was playing, and you know, we try to keep this show very PG-13, so I just want to apologize to anyone who was listening to my ‘behind the scenes’ chatter. I deeply, deeply apologize for that.”
Based on the assumption that Reid’s off-camera commentary was directed at Biden, a number of pundits shared their own reactions.
For conservative writer Nick Arama, the host’s behavior “just shows what a hypocrite she is” since she typically refrains from directly criticizing the president but was “perfectly willing to bash him behind the scenes.”
In fact, her knee-jerk defense of Biden and demonization of the GOP was on full display just before she introduced the clip during which she uttered the profanity.
“Congressional Republicans love to latch on to President Biden and Democrats’ successful policies and take credit for things they didn’t do while tying themselves into pretzels to do nothing for the American people for the sake of Donald Trump,” she claimed.
