The Biden Administration’s overcharging and horrific treatment of persons charged with criminal violations from the January 6 demonstrations are only part of the executive branch’s movement toward creating a federal thought police force. Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security released a National Terrorism Advisory Bulletin on February 7 that outlines the thought crime agenda.
The bulletin says the country remains in a “heightened threat environment” because of online content that amounts to “false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories.” It also referred to online “mis-, dis-, and mal-information (MDM)” as a threat to national security.
Radical progressives have long been obsessed with controlling what people read, watch, hear, and ultimately think. Hapless Joe Biden has finally provided them with a vehicle for making their plans public and cloaked with legitimacy. They have been able to get 40 percent of millennials to believe that whatever “hate speech” is, the First Amendment does not protect it. Now, by linking anything they object to as “terrorism,” they are poised to convince even more Americans that censorship is essential.
The DHS bulletin claims that the “primary terrorism-related threat” facing the nation comes from lone actors or small “cells” who are agitated by “foreign or domestic grievances” spurred on by “certain online content.” Of course, this means any content that is not acceptable to the federal government.
DHS specifically identifies “unsubstantiated widespread election fraud” and COVID-19 as areas where Americans engage in the “proliferation” of false or misleading information. The agency says that those themes specifically have, in fact, “inspired violent extremist attacks during 2021.” That sort of language provides the federal government with a way to argue a direct terrorism link to ordinary Americans expressing their ideas or engaging in discussions.
In its National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism published last June, the agency said it intends to counter “domestic terrorism” by dealing directly with “underlying racism and bigotry.”
When the leftist radicals have managed to criminalize dissent from official narratives, the power of the federal government indirectly policing the thoughts of every American will become entrenched. Americans can hope they will elect new members of Congress who will root out and defund these types of raw power grabs entirely.
