Amid internal Democratic debates over President Joe Biden’s potential withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, the House Republicans’ campaign arm has shifted focus to Vice President Kamala Harris. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) has launched a new digital ad criticizing Harris for her support of Biden and her handling of the border crisis.
The ad highlights Harris as Biden’s key supporter, featuring clips of her praising the president, juxtaposed with footage of Biden stumbling and appearing disoriented. The NRCC emphasizes Harris’ role as “Biden’s enabler in chief and architect of the border crisis,” showing images of large groups of migrants and Harris declaring the border secure.
NRCC National Press Secretary Will Reinert stated that House Republicans are prepared to attack extreme House Democrats if they replace Biden, or remind voters that Harris is next in line if they don’t. This statement accompanies the ad, which was posted on X Wednesday morning.
Amid growing calls from Democrats for the 81-year-old Biden to step aside following his debate performance against former President Donald Trump, Harris has emerged as a potential successor. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled for August 19-22 in Chicago.
The ad portrays Harris as complicit in Biden’s administration, featuring lawmakers such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Jim Clyburn praising Harris. The NRCC ad concludes with a call to vote Republican in November to prevent Harris from advancing, encapsulating the GOP’s strategy to leverage dissatisfaction with the current administration.
