Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has filed articles of impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris, citing her mismanagement of the southern border and concealing President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline. This action reflects growing concerns among conservatives about Harris’s effectiveness and the administration’s transparency.
Appointed as “border czar” in early 2021, Harris has faced criticism for her handling of immigration issues. Ogles references her September 2022 assertion that the border was “secure,” made shortly after the alleged murderer of Laken Riley entered the country illegally. He contends that this statement indicates a significant failure to enforce immigration laws and protect American citizens.
The articles of impeachment also highlight the tragic cases of Rachel Morin, who was raped and murdered, and Laken Riley and 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, who were murdered by illegal immigrants. Ogles argues that these incidents are a direct result of Harris’s negligent border policies.
In addition to the border crisis, Ogles accuses Harris of deceiving the American public and Congress about Biden’s mental health. He asserts that Harris, having met with Biden over 417 times since February 2021, was aware of his cognitive issues but failed to act. Ogles claims that Harris has a “clear moral obligation” to invoke the 25th Amendment, as Biden is “no longer capable of discharging the duties of his office.”
This move is in line with former President Donald Trump’s promises of strict immigration reforms and mass deportations if he is reelected, reminiscent of policies from the Eisenhower era in the 1950s.
The articles of impeachment reflect deep dissatisfaction within the GOP over the handling of border security and the administration’s lack of transparency regarding Biden’s health. The ensuing debate is likely to bring increased scrutiny and debate over the current leadership and policies.
