GOP Lawmakers Work To Repeal FACE Act Targeting Pro-Life Americans

House Republicans, led by Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, are renewing efforts to repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The legislation, introduced with the backing of 25 Republican cosponsors, aims to end what they see as the Biden administration’s weaponization of the law against pro-life advocates.

The FACE Act, signed into law in 1994, was intended to prevent interference at abortion clinics, but Republicans argue it has been selectively enforced. Roy cited statistics showing that the vast majority of cases prosecuted under the law — 97% — were aimed at pro-life activists over the past three decades.

Roy pointed to the Biden administration’s focus on prosecuting pro-life individuals while largely ignoring incidents involving vandalism and violence at pro-life pregnancy centers and churches. He emphasized that now is the time for Congress to take action and prevent further abuses of power.

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah is expected to bring a similar proposal to the Senate, continuing his opposition to the FACE Act. Lee has maintained that the law violates constitutional rights and should have been repealed after the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson ruling.

Pro-life advocacy groups, such as Students for Life Action and Concerned Women for America, have endorsed the repeal effort, calling the FACE Act an outdated and unnecessary law that targets peaceful activists. They are urging lawmakers to prioritize the bill and protect pro-life voices.

Meanwhile, conservative groups are also calling on President Donald Trump to pardon pro-life activists who were convicted under the FACE Act, arguing that their prosecutions were politically motivated and unjust.
