Nikki Fried is the Florida Agricultural Commissioner and is planning a run as a Democrat for Florida governor. The Federalist made a note of her brazen admission that her Democratic Party is in control of the complicit corporate media in a Tweet she posted on July 21.
Fried wrote, “Ron DeSantis has Fox News, but we have everyone else. Florida will be blue in 2022.”
She appears to have no problem expressing her confidence that the relationship of the Democratic Party to the corporate media goes beyond mere bias. In presuming that Gov. DeSantis “has” Fox News, she is glad to say that “we have” everyone else.
Whatever the merits are of her claim to “have” the media outside of Fox News, the trust Americans indeed used to have for the media has been waning in recent years. The Edelman Trust Barometer published annually by Axios shows that media trust is at its lowest point ever.
The findings reported by Axios indicate that most Americans, which must include a substantial number of political independents and Republicans, do not believe that the media is objective.
Fifty-six percent of Americans agree that “Journalists and reporters are purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations.”
Fifty-eight percent think “most news organizations are more concerned with supporting an ideology or political position than with informing the public.”
The media’s obsession with President Donald Trump has undoubtedly given Democrats like Fried ample reason to feel empowered in their relationship. The trade-off that Democrats have likely underestimated is the collapse in public trust in the corporate media that has ensued.
As the media provided cover for the Biden campaign by blacking out all coverage of the discovery of the contents of Hunter Biden’s alleged laptop on the heels of four years of propping up the Russian-Trump collusion hoax, Americans have begun to see the press for what it is.
Fried is one of nine candidates who have declared their intention to run in the Democratic Party primary election for governor of Florida against incumbent Ron DeSantis next year. Included in the slate of Democratic candidates is Charlie Crist, currently the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 13th congressional district and former Republican Florida governor.
