Federal Resistance Signals Need For Trump To Deal With Bureaucracy

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office, polling shows that a large portion of federal employees intend to resist his administration’s policies. This concerning trend highlights the need for Trump to implement stronger accountability measures within the federal workforce.

RMG Research reports that 42% of federal government workers plan to obstruct Trump’s agenda. The resistance is especially strong among Democrat-identifying employees, with 73% expressing plans to oppose the administration. Conversely, 89% of Republican federal employees support Trump’s policies.

To counter this internal opposition, Trump may want to reinstate Schedule F, a policy that would enable the reassignment or dismissal of federal employees who hinder the administration’s efforts. This approach could help ensure that government agencies operate in line with the President’s directives.

The gap between federal workers and everyday Americans is striking. According to the poll, 59% of Main Street Americans support Trump’s policies, while only 28% back resistance to his administration. In contrast, members of the political elite are more likely to support bureaucratic obstruction.

Federal employees are responsible for executing the policies of elected leaders, not for pushing their own political agendas. Strengthening accountability measures could help reduce partisan interference and improve the government’s overall performance.

By prioritizing reforms that promote accountability and efficiency, Trump could reduce resistance within federal agencies and more effectively implement his policies. Addressing this issue early in his term could be critical to fulfilling his promises to the American people.
