FBI And DHS Insist NJ Drone Sightings Do Not Pose A National Security Threat

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a joint statement Friday, addressing concerns over mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey. The agencies claimed there is no evidence to suggest the drones represent a threat to national security or public safety, though they have yet to be able to identify the source of the drone invasion.

“We have no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus,” the statement read. Federal officials suggested that many of the sigh, tings may involve manned aircraft operating lawfully rather than unmanned drones.

The agencies stated that their investigations involve coordination with the New Jersey State Police and the use of advanced detection technologies. Despite these efforts, they admitted they have not confirmed any sightings through electronic monitoring, raising questions about the accuracy of some reports.

While the statement aimed to downplay public fears, it acknowledged limitations in current regulations governing drones. “The reported sightings…highlight the insufficiency of current authorities,” the agencies said, underscoring the need for stronger oversight of unmanned aircraft systems.

The sightings have also been reported in other states, including Oregon and New York, sparking broader speculation about their origins. President-elect Donald Trump responded to the reports on Truth Social, writing, “Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge. I [don’t] think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, [shoot] them down!”

As investigations continue, residents remain concerned about the drones, with many questioning whether the government is fully equipped to address potential risks associated with unauthorized aerial activity.
