Fact-Checkers Dismantle Biden’s Supposed Gay Marriage ‘Epiphany’

The advancement of LGBTQ causes has accelerated at a breakneck speed in recent years, with none other than leftist icon Barack Obama declaring in the final days of the 2008 presidential campaign that he believed marriage should be defined as a union between a man and woman.

Less than 15 years later, no one on the left seems to even be able to determine what a woman actually is.

Nevertheless, President Joe Biden is now claiming that he has been an enlightened progressive on the issue of gay marriage since his high school days many, many decades ago.

In a recent interview, he claimed he could “remember exactly where [his] epiphany was,” describing a supposed incident involving his father dropping him off at school.

“I remember about to get out of the car and I look to my right and two well-dressed men in suits kissed each other,” he said, adding: “I’ll never forget it, I turned and looked at my dad and he said, ‘Joe, it’s simple. They love each other.’”

Of course, Biden has a long history of sharing fabricated or highly exaggerated tales for his own political benefit — and evidence indicates that this was just the latest example.

Even the Washington Post’s in-house fact-checker cautioned people to “be skeptical of this story as Biden retells it.”

For starters, Glenn Kessler noted that homosexuals were “largely closeted” when Biden was in high school, making it unlikely that two men would be openly kissing as the president described. Furthermore, Biden offered a seemingly different version of the same story in an interview with The New York Times, but in that variation, he was the father who shared an inclusive message with his own son after spotting two men kissing in public.

If Biden truly did achieve an “epiphany,” either in high school or years later in a conversation with his own son, it is unclear why that was not reflected in his actions throughout much of his lengthy career in public office.

Prior to the then-vice president’s 2012 comments in favor of same-sex marriage that prodded Obama to change his own stance on the issue, Biden had publicly spoken out against such unions on multiple occasions and voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996.

More than two decades earlier, but long after his supposed high school revelation, he went so far as to oppose homosexuals in the federal government workforce, claiming that they were “security risks.”
