The magical lands of princes and princesses will no longer welcome “boys and girls” or “ladies and gentlemen.” Instead, employees are now trained to say “Hello, everyone” or “hello, friends,” in the interest of inclusivity.
The iconic greeting for the Magic Kingdom fireworks show that referenced ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls is now “Good evening, dreamers of all ages!” However, a quick check of the shopDisney website finds clothing and merchandise listed for “men,” “women,” “boys,” “and girls.” Go figure.
Walt Disney’s diversity and inclusion manager Vivian Ware says the company wants to create “that magical moment” for children who do not fit into traditional gender roles. Ware adds that workers should not assume that kids who are “presenting as female” want to be a “princess.”
Executive producer Latoya Raveneau says the company has welcomed her “not-at-all-secret gay agenda” and that she is encouraged to insert “queerness” wherever she can. Last year the entertainment giant produced This Is Me: Pride Celebration Spectacular, a show aimed at kids that featured a drag queen and several Disney standards “reimagined” as LGBTQ+.
Disney corporate vice president Karey Burke says she supports having “many, many, many LGBTQIAP characters in our stories.” Burke adds that she is the mother of “one transgender child and one pansexual child.”
Walt Disney committed last year to its “Reimagine Tomorrow” campaign to establish inclusion standards across all content. By the end of 2022, 50% of all regular and recurring characters across Disney General Entertainment will be from “underrepresented groups.”
The company, after facing a possible employee walkout earlier this month, came out in opposition to Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill. Signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, the bill specifically bans teaching “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” to children from kindergarten through third grade.
President Joe Biden tweeted last month that the bill is “hateful.”
Parents face an ever-shrinking list of options for children’s entertainment that are not politicized and/or promoting, at the very minimum, an agenda that’s hardly age-appropriate. Woke Disney is barreling towards becoming irrelevant for conservative families in a way that could hardly be imagined not long ago, and it’s completely self-inflicted.
