David Hogg Criticized For Directing Donations To Personal PAC Instead Of DNC

David Hogg’s tenure as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is already causing division within the party, as insiders accuse him of using DNC contact lists to solicit donations for his own political action committee (PAC). While the practice does not violate DNC rules, some Democrats view it as an ethical misstep.

Hogg, who co-founded Leaders We Deserve in 2023, has reportedly sent multiple fundraising messages to DNC contacts urging them to contribute to his PAC rather than the party. The PAC, which claims to support young progressive candidates, has paid Hogg over $175,000 since its launch, including more than $20,000 in December alone.

One of the messages sent to DNC supporters read, “David Hogg here: I was just elected DNC Vice Chair! This is a huge win for our movement to make the Democratic Party more reflective of our base: youthful, energetic, and ready to win.” A link in the message directed recipients to donate to his PAC.

His actions have drawn sharp criticism from some party members. One Democrat, frustrated by Hogg’s use of DNC resources, remarked, “David Hogg — talk about living up to your name. A trough of DNC dollars all for him and he doesn’t seem to give an oink.” Another official argued that Democratic leaders should focus on fundraising for the party rather than their personal projects.

At 24 years old, Hogg became one of the youngest leaders in the DNC after gaining national attention following the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He has since advocated for left-wing policies, including defunding the police and abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), positions that have made him a controversial figure within the party.

Cameron Kasky another Parkland survivor, voiced his frustration over Hogg’s rise in Democratic leadership. “I mean it’s just very frustrating to be in a party in desperate need of increased accountability for our struggling leadership, and watch someone who is never held accountable ascend to leadership,” Kasky said.

When contacted for comment, Hogg declined to speak but later had a spokesperson state that he has raised funds for the DNC in addition to his PAC.
