Bill Maher Criticizes Media For False Claims On Trump’s Liz Cheney Remarks

During a recent Real Time Overtime segment, comedian Bill Maher took the media to task for allegedly lying about President Donald Trump’s comments on former Rep. Liz Cheney. Maher addressed misleading headlines that suggested Trump wanted Cheney in front of a firing squad.

Maher read Trump’s full remarks, in which he said, “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there,” to clarify the context. He explained that Trump’s statement was about Cheney’s support for military action, not a call for violence. Maher noted, “This is what peace activists have said about hawks for decades.”

“I’m not defending Trump,” Maher said, “but just don’t lie to me.” His remarks highlight his frustration with the media’s handling of Trump, calling for accuracy over sensationalism. Maher’s words resonated with viewers who feel the media is often too quick to twist stories.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), also on the segment, agreed, stating that the media’s portrayal was “ridiculous.” Raskin criticized Trump’s stance but admitted that misleading the public was counterproductive.

Maher’s comments come at a time of increased skepticism toward the media, especially as recent job reports show weak growth outside of government jobs under the Harris-Biden administration. Many believe the media’s focus on the Cheney story detracts from real economic issues facing the nation.
