Armed Homeowner Defends Property, Fatally Shoots Intruder In New Mexico

In an early morning break-in on Tuesday, a homeowner in Albuquerque fatally shot an alleged intruder. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a call around 3:45 a.m. about the incident at a home near Lost Horizon Drive.

When authorities arrived, they found the suspect critically injured. Despite efforts to save the individual, the suspect was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. The homeowner told deputies that they shot the intruder in self-defense during the break-in.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the shooting, which has sparked a wave of support for the homeowner. Many residents of Albuquerque, frustrated by rising crime, have taken to social media to express their views. One commenter said, “We have the right to protect ourselves, especially when police response times are too slow.”

Another supporter remarked, “Good job defending your home. This is why the 2nd Amendment is so important.” With crime rates climbing in the area, many are pointing to this incident as an example of why gun rights are essential for self-defense.

The investigation is ongoing, but the public has largely rallied behind the homeowner’s decision to protect their property.
